fanart, Red Cap Fandom: Harry Potter Characters/Pairings: a red cap Media used: pencil, fine liner pen with waterproof indian ink, black tea, GIMP Rating/warnings: G, none Notes/comments: Some time ago I drew a bowtruckle supposed to look like an excerpt from an old book about magical creatures from the HP universe. I wanted to do more in this style and did a poll which creature I ought to draw next. The red cap got two votes, all others either zero or one (it wasn't a popular poll, heh), so here it is. Admittedly my turn around time isn't exactly fast. I also have to give credit to amelia_eve for suggesting a title for this imaginary work, because I couldn't come up with anything, and she commented with several options in the bowtruckle post. Eight Crazy Nights It's getting towards that time of year again, so I'm now soliciting prompts for Eight Crazy Nights. You provide fandom/s, character/s, pairing/s if you like, and something else--words, lyrics, tropes. Starting on the first night of Hanukah, I will post drabbles or, if inspiration strikes, something longer, just like last year. I'll do crossovers, timestamps for past stories, or anything else I can make work. Along with the usual suspects (SV, SPN, Buffy, XF) I will try anything I think I can do. Contenders include Chuck, Gossip Girl with appropriate characters (hint: Blair Waldorf must pie; Jenny Humphrey must die), and My Own Worst Enemy. Multiple prompts are fine; I'll just see what I can get to. |

rat update Krümel has somehow broken his foot. Unfortunately the x-ray showed that the break is right in the ankle joint, which is a bad place for it to heal. Casts and such aren't an option for rats, because they'd only hurt themselves more getting things off, so the only thing is to wait and hope it'll heal on its own, by making him rest as much as possible for a few weeks, though the vet did give him something against the pain and swelling today.
The best case scenario is that the joint just gets stiff. Unfortunately the vet said that sometimes rats will gnaw or bite the places that hurt them, so I have to check that he doesn't chew his limb open too. And I can't let him climb stairs or anything else or the break won't heal at all. And he isn't the youngest anymore either.
My cage is large with six levels and I can only separate two level elements with the built in barriers, so I rearranged things to put a small hamster cage I still had as an isolation/sick cage inside one level of the larger cage. Krümel and the others can see and smell each other (so that there hopefully won't be any trouble when he rejoins them), but he can't move much, get into scuffles or climb anything (seriously how anyone could incarcerate a rodent permanently in a cage this small is incomprehensible).
Krümel isn't too happy with this turn of events, but OTOH I hope he won't mind too much because he hobbled very little yesterday evening anyway, just to get food and to the toilet corner, which is understandable, I wouldn't walk on a broken foot either, but both involved stairs from his favorite sleeping place, and obviously that couldn't go on. It's kind of unfair too that he now can't sleep cuddled with the others, but of course the others won't be careful with his foot and non-sleeping rat interactions don't really lend itself to keeping an ankle as still as possible.
Anyway, wish Krümel luck that his broken joint will heal without serious complications. |

rat worries I just noticed that Krümel hasn't come out at all tonight during playtime, though I did see him eat briefly. And he's getting quieter with age but not that quiet, so I checked on him, and I saw that his left back foot is badly swollen. I didn't see an obvious wound, so I don't know what it is. He squeaks when I touch him there anyway and can't really walk. So I guess it'll be a vet trip first thing tomorrow. I hope he'll be okay until then. *is worried*

classic crossover rec The fanlore wiki doesn't just cause me even more online activity dreams, it also makes me reminisce about past fandoms, and think fondly of fic I've read. Unfortunately too often I can't find the stories again, because sites and archives vanish. :( I'd never thought one of my favorite X-Files/Homicide crossovers, Saundra's Mulder/Bayliss Slash-Evidence series, which I saw mentioned on fanlore, could be so hard to find again in its entirety, because X-Files is such a well archived fandom, and I remember it not just on her site but also on the Annex Novel archive and Gossamer, and on some slash archive or other, and its parts won a bunch of awards, yet when I looked for it today I found her site long gone and only some parts of the series in the archives that are still around, but not all stories. :( However, since the parts are finished stories, and the first couple are still around I'm going to rec it anyway, because I reread the first parts and still like it, ten years after I first read the series. I found a WayBack Machine link to her site that lists the parts, but unfortunately the stories themselves aren't archived. The main stories in the series were grouped in four arcs: Forward Slash, with the stories Young Blooded, Signature, Worst Case Scenario and Segue: Litany and Requiem is still available at Gossamer completely, also on other sites. Trace Evidence, with the stories Inadmissable, Hobson's Choice, Say Goodnight and Coda: Penance and Lamentation, has unfortunately only the first part still available easily. However I found Hobson's Choice in ten parts at the google archive of alt.tv.x-files.creative *hearts usenet* here: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10. also Say Goodnight in ten parts too: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10. and Coda: Penance and Lamentation in three parts: 1, 2, 3. The third set of stories Cold Cases is archived at Gossamer: Filial Piety, Prescient Perception I, Prescient Perception II, and Epilogue. The fourth set Sacrament of Silence started with: Segue: The Ties That Bind and Empty Cage was posted in 13 parts but only three of those made it into the usenet archive. (BTW, if anyone on my f-list has a complete copy or knows where to find it, I'd be really grateful.) There were also a number of vignettes, some also available at Gossamer. Anyway, I dug it up as best as I could for you to read easily. It's a great series. Current Mood: nostalgic |

Oh, you guys! My snarry_holidays gift was just posted and it's really lovely. It's set long after DH, and...okay, you know what? I avoided looking at the warnings and notes until I'd read the story (because I like to stay entirely spoiler free), but for those of you who only read stories if you know just what to expect, the mystery author's notes are pretty detailed (...and my comments at the end fill in the blanks *g*) Go read "Absence (Makes the Heart Grow Fonder)" - and then go read the snarry_holidays stories you've missed. |

GIP I felt the need for a nitpicking icon. Belatedly it occurred to me that I'm not sure English has the expression about "finding a hair in every soup" for people who nitpick to find something to complain about. Still, the imagery is fairly clear, I think, so I went ahead with my motif for visualizing the activity. I also made another icon with a RatCreature that hasn't heard right, both for the literal meaning (seriously, how can people on tv series, trained actors, mumble this much?), as well as the figurative one: ( larger pencils and inks for both are behind the cut ) |

You know, dreaming about LJ activity is bad enough, but now with fanlore fannish wiki-editing is featuring in my dreams too (though at least the dream also had a wacky action-adventure plot with some convoluted villain plan). This is getting kind of pathetic. I'm not even that active there. But maybe I'm not alone at least? I have a poll on LJ asking about wiki-fied dreams. (I can't post polls on IJ.) Okay, so the icon isn't *quite* accurate, but bear with me... Catch me low by Te November 10, 2008 Disclaimers: No one and nothing here is mine.
